Podere
Cortinova (loc. Marrocco - SIENA)
Overlooking Siena, its “crete” and towers,
Podere Cortinova is located only 20 kilometres
from this town. Surrounded by a 20-hectare
olive grove and by wood and Mediterranean
maquis with holm-oaks, Turkey oaks, strawberry-trees
and heather, it has very ancient origins.
In fact, in 1895, while a vineyard was being
planted, an Etruscan chamber tomb with frescoes
was found and this bears witness to the
fact that the country house was already
inhabited in those ancient times. In the
wood you can still find arrow heads made
of flintstone and other remains of stone
and bone furnishing and fittings.
The complex is made up of eight 2-8 place
units, all connected with one another. The
units are elegantly furnished with period
furniture and are all equipped with satellite
TV.
About 50 metres from the complex, immersed
into the green landscape of the olive grove,
there is the swimming pool (16 x 8 metres)
from which you can enjoy a scenic view of
Siena and its “crete”.
In the complex there are two traditional
wood-burning ovens for cooking bread and
pizzas; one of them is located under a superb
ancient 150- square metre roof made of flat
tiles and bricks, propped by a typical Tuscan-style
round column, with stone flooring. In the
courtyard there is a small stone well and
the floor is stone-paved.
